Neha Chauhan, a seeker belongs to the young generation of Indian Classical Dance “Kathak”
She has trained under the lineage of Lucknow Gharana of kathak. She has absorbed the sensitivity in bhava(Expression), which is the emotional representation of kathak and the rhythmic joy adds up in her performance and teachings. Her very being is inspired by nature and brings it alive in her performance. Her studies in ancient texts like Introductory Natya Shastra, Chatur Veda Shatakam and Bhagwad Gita have always brought the spiritual aspect of Indian classical dance into the light. Presently she is an empanelled artist of Doordarshan, Spic Macay and also a registerded teacher from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahamandal, Mumbai and Running her own art community KalaSangha.
She has studied with the maestros of Lucknow Gharana for more than a decade. Her initial training was under guru Rani Khanam at Aamad kathak dance center, ministry of culture. Later for advanced training, she studied under Pt Jai Kishan Maharaj (Elder son of Pt. Birju Maharaj) in a five-year diploma at Kathak Kendra, Delhi. She is also a Graduate and Post-graduate in kathak from Indra Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, and a recipient of a scholarship at Kathak Kendra for five years consecutively. She was also granted a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture.
She was a part of multiple choreographies and classical ballets during her studies with her guru Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaja, being the son of Pt. Birju Maharaj, He enriched her dance with emotional understanding and rhythmic nuances, and a sense of composing and choreography.
Later on, Neha performed, taught and worked at National and International levels in various prestigious festivals and platforms.
She was a teacher cum performer at the Embassy of India Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan under the panel of ICCR for two years as well. Presently she is

Passing on the legacy she learned from her guru, Neha is an enthusiastic and excellent teacher herself. Her pedagogy is unique and holistic. Her approach to body, mind, and soul takes the student on a musical as well meditative journey and makes it a unique experience. Connecting with children and creatively spreading the essence of Indian classical music is passed on to the students. In the age of modern music and dance her faith and devotion to Indian classical dance is unique. The age group has varied from 5-50 years and each of her student has something special to learn in the lessons.
Her journey of teaching started with assisting her gurus, later she taught at many schools, colleges and other organisations i.e. ICC.. Presently her journey is continued through her own Art community ‘KalaSangha’.
YOGA & Meditation Practitioner
Yoga is the foundation of life. Born in a Vedic family, her understanding of Yoga and chanting started from childhood. Indian classical dance and Yoga have a deep connection and it is a very important part of the dance training.
During the five years of training at Kathak Kendra, she did her initial yoga training as an allied subject under the guidance of Sandhya Mangalam and Dr. Amit Kumar Chauhan. Since then yoga has been imbibed in her dance and teaching method. Later she did a short-term course as well at Morarji Desai national institute of Yoga, Delhi and continued her practice being a seeker.
Music, Along with Yoga, she holds the knowledge of Hindustani classical vocal & Tabla (Indian classical drum). It is a very important aspect for a Kathak dancer to learn vocal and tabla. Her initial training in tabla was at kala ashram for one year. Later she continued learning tabla under eminent Gurus Nirmal Mondal and Probeer Mitra for 3 years at kathak kendra.
Vocal, initially she learned from Meera Chakraborty at Kala Ashram, later under the guidance of Ameer Ahmad Khan Sahab and Rakesh Pathak at Kathak Kendra for 5 years. Her teaching method covers these aspects as well.
Theatre is an integral part of classical dance, as both the forms are based on Natyashastra.
Grown as a performing artist, Neha has learned and performed under the field of theatre as well. She has performed in various theatrical plays and performed as a lead actress in “MUJHSE PEHLE SI MOHOBBAT MERE MEHBOOB NA MAANG”, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Directed by Ram ji Bali under the panel of Sangeet Natak Akademi, later at Hindustan Times.
She has done choreographies as well in the field of theatre which has been for- National school of drama, doordarshan and more.
